Bhavisha Vanmali is a Business & Marketing graduate from Manchester Metropolitan University who is currently a Research & Marketing intern at Barrs Court Engineering via a Step placement.
After graduating, like most people I was still very unsure what I wanted to pursue as a career. I studied Business and Marketing which I really enjoyed, but felt that I missed out as I did not do a placement year in between. So, instead of applying for jobs straight away I decided to take the opportunity to go travelling for a few months whilst I decided what I wanted to go into. When I got back I applied to numerous graduate schemes and roles within marketing but only ever heard back with the automated replies from companies saying my applications were unsuccessful. I knew the main reason was because I was lacking industrial experience.
After looking on my university’s career page I came across a link for Step. Once I had a look on the website and saw the vast amount of placements Step had secured for graduates, and more importantly how much graduates had learnt from their roles I registered my details and completed my profile. There were a number of marketing positions at the time, after showing my interest in a particular role I had a call from Diane within a couple of days. She submitted my application for the role and I attended an interview not long after.
A week before Christmas Diane called me with some fantastic news, firstly to say that I had won the Christmas Facebook competition in which I won a Kindle Fire and that I had also secured a placement. I was overwhelmed by the news and could not believe it. I am extremely excited to start my new role as a Research and Marketing graduate at Barrs Court Engineering. Step have been absolutely fantastic with supporting me all the way with regular communication and support and I would highly recommend them to anyone seeking to gain some industry experience.
