Northamptonshire | Internship
Salary: £ to per
Ref: 1295946
The company specialises in developing innovative technologies for the motorcycle industry, with a strong focus on reducing environmental impact through aerodynamic efficiency. You’ll be part of a small, agile team working on high-impact projects that blend engineering, nature-inspired design, and digital simulation.
The Challenge: Motorcycles face aerodynamic drag issues that limit performance and efficiency. Traditional design methods are often constrained by cost and geometry. This internship project explores nature-inspired solutions—such as those found in shark skin or owl feathers—and applies them to motorcycle surfaces using digital tools.
Your work will help identify and simulate innovative surface geometries that improve aerodynamic flow, reduce drag, and support the company’s mission to create eco-efficient motorcycles.
As a Digital Design Intern, you will:
- Analyse baseline aerodynamic data and present it in a digital dashboard.
- Conduct a literature review of biomimicry and drag-reduction systems used in other industries.
- Collaborate on CAD modelling of bio-inspired surface concepts.
- Use CFD simulations to evaluate aerodynamic performance.
- Compile findings into a final report and present recommendations for future development.
- Mechanical, Aerospace or Automotive Engineering
- Aerodynamics or Fluid Dynamics
- CAD proficiency (e.g., SolidWorks, Siemens NX, Fusion 360)
- CFD simulation experience (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM)
- Understanding of fluid dynamics and aerodynamics
- Research and concept development
- Data visualisation and technical reporting
- Duration: 6-7 Weeks
- Hours: Monday to Friday.
- Paid: £12.50 per hour
- Support: Mentorship from senior leadership, access to internal data and design tools
