Historic England are the public body that looks after England's historic environment helping people understand, value and care for it. They currently have a fantastic opportunity to join through the Emerging Talent Trainee Placement as a Partnerships Team Assistant.
Purpose of the Placement
You will be working as part of the Historic England Partnerships Team to support work to increase access to the heritage of the Yorkshire Wolds. Your focus will be to support them and their partners to deliver effective stakeholder engagement and participation activities with under-engaged groups and individuals in the Yorkshire Wolds.
The Yorkshire Wolds programme includes recording and analysis of the historic landscape of the Wolds to better understand the lives of previous generations that lived there, going back into pre-history. This work is led by our specialist teams in Historic England and there will be opportunities to take part in this work. We are also running a programme of training and access events with York Archaeology and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust which is specifically designed to broaden access. You will have opportunities to support this programme of work as well.
Behaviours we are looking for:
Connecting - You enjoy establishing relationships, seeking to support and help others
Discovery - You love finding out new things and developing yourself
Legacy - You seek to deliver a positive and sustainable impact by creating things that will outlast you
Planning - You make plans and take a deliberate approach to everything that you do.
Emerging Talent Programme
Historic England's Emerging Talent Programme provides paid opportunities to those underrepresented in the heritage sector
Our training placements are for young people aged 18 to 30 years old across three audiences:
- Black, Asian, or ethnic minorities
- Disabled people
- People who are disadvantaged by their social and/or economic background or circumstances
What you will be doing
- Planning engagement events and activities, and associated administration. This may include venue booking arrangements and logistics, attendance registers and agendas.
- Assist in liaising with our delivery partners York Archaeology and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, ensuring that their programme of activities are coordinated with archaeological fieldwork and aerial survey activities which are being led by our Historic England teams.
- Act as an advocate for ensuring that these programmes of activity are accessible for under-engaged groups and individuals and help to ensure that our work contributes to their health and well-being.
- There are a range of community organisations and voluntary heritage groups in the Wolds that form part of a stakeholder group for the projects. You will help to coordinate our engagement with these organisations, working under the direction of our Heritage at Risk Project Officer.
Events and meetings
We will be hosting a Welcome Event for all Emerging Talent Placements once confirmed. You will be required to attend our York office for meetings for a minimum of two days a week. You will also be attending site meetings with partners and on location in the Wolds and participating in outdoor fieldwork on archaeological sites in the Wolds. The remainder of your time will entail hybrid working from home.
