About the Company
Newby Leisure Ltd specialises in the design, manufacture and supply of outdoor learning and playground equipment for schools and educational settings across the UK. The company produces bespoke playground designs and handcrafted timber products, including physical play equipment, outdoor classrooms, sensory and nature-based play areas, role-play equipment, water-play resources, shelters and seating. The business also provides playground consultancy, site visits and design services, with a focus on sustainable materials and environmentally responsible practices.

The Opportunity
Newby Leisure currently relies on multiple spreadsheets and paper-based processes to manage and analyse day-to-day business activities. Information is often duplicated across different documents, creating additional administration and increasing the risk of errors and inconsistencies.
This internship will focus on investigating how information and processes can be centralised and automated, particularly in relation to order processing, cost pricing and general data management. Working closely with employees across the business, you will review existing systems and workflows, identify opportunities to reduce duplication and manual administration, and help develop practical digital solutions that can be accessed, updated and maintained by staff.
The overall aim of the project is to improve data accuracy and visibility, reduce reliance on paper-based systems, streamline communication and support Newby Leisure's digital transformation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate with employees across departments to understand how the business operates and how information moves between teams.
  • Review current spreadsheets, documents and paper-based processes.
  • Map existing workflows, particularly those relating to order processing, cost pricing and general data management.
  • Identify duplicated information, repetitive tasks, data-quality issues and areas where errors or delays occur.
  • Gather requirements and feedback from sales, warehouse, manufacturing and operational teams.
  • Research appropriate databases, platforms, digital tools and automation options.
  • Assess potential solutions based on usability, accessibility, cost, security and suitability for the business.
  • Cleanse, organise and standardise relevant business information where required.
  • Help develop or configure a centralised system, database or prototype solution.
  • Explore opportunities to automate repetitive administrative tasks.
  • Test proposed solutions and gather feedback from employees.
