New product development: it’s about your DNA – literally

Isohelix is a fast-growing division of Cell Projects Ltd, UK designers and manufacturers of innovative, high quality Molecular Biology Products used globally in Life Science, Cancer Research and Medical Diagnostic fields. Their range of products includes Electroporation, Transfection, PCR, qPCR, DNA Swabs & Kits, Gap Junction and Signal Transduction Studies.

They market their range of branded products directly and through distributors to the UK, Europe and worldwide. The company also has a successful service division for subcontract ‘design to manufacturing’ programs to other companies. The ‘design to manufacturing’ area utilises their considerable in-house knowledge and experience accumulated over more than 15 years of engineering high quality products for Molecular Biology and other related research areas.

Cell Projects have recently utilised the Step programme to source a Product Technician intern for 12 weeks. The Step intern has been developing their Molecular Biology techniques and Aseptic Techniques to assist in the development, testing and manufacturing of new products, particularly focusing on DNA manipulation and cancer research. Working at a small, but fast growing business has also exposed the intern to not only laboratory work, but also technical support, stock control and assembly work. Thus improving their confidence and knowledge of what happens after practical work has concluded.

Following the 12 week internship, Cell Projects hope that the Step intern will be capable of being more independent when undertaking practical laboratory experiments. They also expect them to get more and more involved with the manufacturing and the marketing of the products.

Step provides internship solutions to businesses whilst supporting undergraduates and graduates with the transition between study and work. Step has placed over 22,000 students and graduate in 26 years, and continue to do so in all job sectors.
