Are you a graduate looking to enter a quantity surveying role with clear progression routes?
 
This Nottingham based company specialising in low voltage assemblies and control systems are looking for a graduate to join them as a quantity surveyor. They have been running for over 150 years, delivering manufacturing and engineering projects across the UK, operating in a range of sectors including energy, oil, and gas, nuclear and water.
 
Within the role, you will be assisting the project managers with detailed cost reports, and pricings for tenders. Along with this, you will prepare weekly costings for labour, materials, and sub-contractors for the projects they’re working on. The role has become available because of the growth of the company, so you will be able to make this role your own and grow within this position. You will be responsible for the financial, commercial and planning of projects, and adhere to current legislation, health and safety, and contract law.
 
To excel in this role, you will have education or experience in quantity surveying, as well as having the ability to reach and interpret architectural and engineering drawings. As you will be assisting several different projects at any one time, you must be able to organise your time effectively to make sure tasks are completed to deadlines.
 
Skills
  • Education/Experience in Quantity Surveying
  • Ability to develop ideas and solutions to improve systems
  • Able to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings
  • Communication skills both verbal and written
  • Proficient in Microsoft software packages
  • Have a keen eye for detail
  • Ideally a full UK driver’s licence and own transport
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and flexibility in approach
  • Be able to deal with challenges to decisions and requests
  • Ability to work on their own initiative
 
Responsibilities
  • Prepare weekly costs for Labour, Materials and Sub-contractors for each project.
  • Preparation of sub-contractor work packages.
  • Evaluation of sub-contractor valuations and approvals for payment.
  • Preparation of cost reports for smaller projects.
  • Monitoring and updating material pricing records for use in cost reporting.
  • Assist the project managers with detailed cost reports and the pricing of tenders.
  • Work with the site team and factory teams to understand the overall process.
  • Work with the procurement team to reduce project costs in and increase value.
