Our diversity promise: Step is committed to promoting equality of opportunity and fair participation in employment for all persons. Every year we look to publish our diversity data.  We do this to highlight areas for improvement and if necessary, to  be able to take lawful affirmative or positive action.

Collecting the data:

We ask every candidate that we present to clients, to complete the diversity questionnaire. The form is completely voluntary.

As an agency we feel that it is not proportionate for us to collect every applicant’s data, we therefore believe the best stage to gather this data is the shortlisting stage.  This allows us to press pause on our processes and review the shortlisted candidate data to ensure we are representing a diversity of job seekers.

In 2020 we broadened the range of candidates we asked to give us this information to increase our visibility and improve our processes.  The data we collected in 2019 only represented those candidates who found work with Step.

A note on Covid

Due to the pandemic, we were not operational between the months of April and August which meant that we collected less data than we would usually hope to.
