We are supporting a small charity based in Nottingham.  It is funded by a combination of National Lottery, Integrated Care board, Trusts and grants and a small contract delivering services on behalf of another charity. Quickbooks is set up and is in use.
Since the beginning of 2026 there have been significant changes in staffing and the board now needs to better understand the financial position of the charity. This role is a temporary position to achieve this aim.
  • Carry out a balance sheet reconciliation representing the current position
  • Deliver month end close out including journals, accruals and prepayments
  • Ensure budgets are accurate and reflective of the current position
  • Highlight financial gaps, include where resource cost is higher than contractual income.
  • Ensure that all legal obligations in respect of tax are being met.
  • Support monthly payroll.
  • Once the current position is understood, the post holder will need to create a month by month forecast and report to Board using YTD expenditure.
  • Carry out scenario planning to ascertain potential future costs if the income position of the charity changes. 
  • Develop templates to aid management accounting e.g. cashflow forecasts.
In order to execute this role, the contractor must be able to demonstrate:
  • Financial management / bookkeeping / treasury experience in the charitable sector.
  • An understanding of grant funding, ideally within charity and public sector context (although education experience may be sufficient)
  • Knowledge of employment law, in particular the statutory guidelines around TUPE and redundancy.
  • Working knowledge of quickbooks
  • Understanding of charity governance (Charities SORP)
The contract is for 1-3 months, starting on or before 14th September 2026.  The charity is based in Nottingham, ideally we are looking for candidates based in Nottingham, Mansfield, Derby, Leicester, Loughborough, Burton on Trent, Newark, Grantham. Some hybrid work will be accepted.
