Boston, Lincolnshire | 200 hours | Full time | Onsite | £12.71 per hour

Start Date: Flexible

About the Company
Philip Cowan Interiors Limited is a Lincolnshire-based manufacturer of bespoke curtains and specialist soft furnishings for the healthcare and hospitality sectors. The company has over 50 years' experience in manufacturing and installing window treatments and supplies its products throughout the UK. The business currently is experiencing strong growth, alongside plans to expand its premises and introduce a new Deco Loop MRP system.

About the Opportunity
This internship will support the development of a digital site survey application designed to improve the way survey information is collected, stored and shared across the business. Currently, site surveys require the use of multiple devices and systems, including laptops, spreadsheets and mobile phones, with information manually organised and linked together after site visits.
The successful intern will help design, develop and test a digital application that enables surveyors to capture measurements, photographs, room information, project notes and customer-site information within a single structured platform. The application will be designed for mobile and tablet use and developed with future integration into the company's Deco Loop MRP system in mind.

Key Responsibilities
During the internship, you will:
  • Meet with employees and stakeholders to understand the current site survey process.
  • Map existing processes and identify inefficiencies, duplication and sources of error.
  • Gather and document user and system requirements.
  • Design the structure, user journey and data fields for the proposed application.
  • Develop a working prototype accessible on mobile and tablet devices.
  • Configure the prototype to capture measurements, photographs, room details, site information and project notes.
  • Investigate future integration requirements for the Deco Loop MRP system.
  • Test the application using representative survey scenarios.
  • Gather user feedback and implement agreed improvements.
  • Produce user guidance and technical documentation.
  • Present project findings, recommendations and the completed prototype to the management team.
What You'll Gain
This internship will provide practical experience in application development, process analysis, data management, systems integration, user testing and project delivery. You will also gain insight into how digital technologies can improve operational efficiency within a manufacturing and project-based business.
